Read sections 9.1-9.5.3. of the chapter Crustal Deformation and Earthquakes from your lecture textbook. You can also learn the content through the audio version below. As you read, don't forget to engage in active reading Links to an external site.and take notes. This is especially important when the learning objectives (see below) are addressed.
This reading assignment will provide the information needed to meet the learning objectives and complete exercises, quizzes, and discussions.
After completing the reading, answer the following questions. Be sure to read each question carefully to help you choose the best answer. You have three attempts and no time limit.
Optional: Starting with section 9.2, Geologic Structures, in the chapter Geologic Structures and Mapping, you'll find some excellent illustrations and content to deeper your understanding of this sometimes complex topic.
Note: If you find that you need extra support in accessing any items in this quiz, please notify me via email right away so I can offer you an alternative.
Time Needed

Learning Objectives
- Students can describe the geologic processes, the relative movement of plates, and the distinguishing landforms associated with each type of plate boundary
- Students can relate tectonic stresses to plate boundaries, geologic structures, crustal deformation, and the building of mountains
- Students describe the relative movement of tectonic plates at each of the 3 types of plate boundaries.
- Identify geologic structures in photos and illustrations
- Relate tectonic stresses to deformation, plate boundaries, and geologic structures
- Describe how tectonic stresses, deformation, plate tectonic activity, and geologic structures relate to the formation of different types of mountains
