3.6C| In-Person Lab: Mineral Identification

Overview 

In this exercise, you will apply what you've learned from the preceding assignments and exercises and use the diagnostic physical properties of minerals specimens provided by your instructor to identify the minerals by name and organize them into the correct mineral group.   

Directions

1. Make a copy of the Mineral Identification Lab (click on File --> Make a Copy). Now you have a copy that you can edit.
2. Read through the Mineral Identification Lab.
3. Read the directions to complete the mineral identification tables in the lab.
4. Answer the questions contained in this quiz. 

You have three attempts and must complete this exercise during the in-person class time.

• Students can use physical properties to identify minerals and can explain mineral-forming processes
• Use chemical formulas to classify minerals into mineral groups
