3.6D| In-Person Lab: Mineral Identification

Overview 

In this exercise, you will apply what you've learned from the preceding assignments and exercises and use the diagnostic physical properties of minerals specimens provided by your instructor to identify the minerals by name and organize them into the correct mineral group.   

Directions

1. Read through the Mineral Identification Lab and follow its instructions.
2. Make a copy of the Mineral Identification Lab (click on File --> Make a Copy). Now you have a copy that you can edit.
3. Read the directions in the lab exercise provided and complete the mineral identification tables in the lab.
4. Name the mineral and mineral group by answering the questions in this quiz.

• Students can use physical properties to identify minerals and can explain mineral-forming processes
• Use chemical formulas to classify minerals into mineral groups
